When it comes to selling crops in the market, the profit potential of crops is not the same across the board.
First you want to think about how active you will be in the game. If you are on a lot you can pick a much more profitable crop that requires more planting and harvesting time. If you only check in once a day or a few times a day, you want to pick a crop that is more slow-growing.

Crop History
In 2012, 2013, and 2014, there were only 22 crops that players could plant. They are: Wheat, Corn, Soybean, Sugarcane, Carrot, Indigo, Pumpkin, Apple, Cotton, Raspberry, Cherry, Chili Pepper, Blackberry, Tomato, Strawberry, Potato, Cacao, Coffee Bean, Rice, Olive, Lettuce, and Lemon. But, in 2015 and 2016, there were 6 new crops (28 crops total). The new crops are: Onion, Orange, Peach, Tea Leaf, Grapes, and Banana. In 2017, 2 new crops (30 crops total) were added.
